With tensions rising between Türkiye and Greece, recent developments in the Aegean are naturally drawing attention. The visit of the Greek Prime Minister to an island reportedly only around 2 km from the Turkish coast has also raised questions.
But there is something important to remember.
Turkish people do not seek war. War is not something ordinary people want, and peace should always be the first choice. Türkiye’s preference should be diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful solutions to disputes.
But wanting peace should never be mistaken for weakness.
If Türkiye is not attacked, there is no reason for war. But if its security or sovereignty is seriously threatened, Türkiye has the right to defend itself and its people.
The message should be simple: We do not want war. We want peace. But we will defend ourselves if necessary.
The Aegean should be a sea that connects two peoples—not a battlefield between them.
Peace is strength. And defending yourself when necessary is not aggression; it is self-defense.
